I was in England at the time of ordering and could not
anticipate the delivery to an address there before I returned to Australia.
The speed with which you responded to my initial order,
the confirmation and the dispatch were great. The order had arrived in
Australia within a 10 day window which is extraordinary as regular post often
takes up to three weeks to be delivered. I would commend you, the Royal Mail
and Australia post for your excellent service.
I am in the process of fitting the webbing, restoring the
chair to its original condition. The chair was a wedding present given to my
wife and I by the Ercol family in 1974.

*Good morning
You may be interested to hear that the repair has been completed, and it is perfectly feasible for it to have been done single-handed. The trick, apparently, is to lubricate the end of each loop with olive oil to make it easy to push through the upper and lower slots in the frame (just the tip of the loop, otherwise the strap becomes too slippery to grip). Once the first loop has been located, it helps if the strap is given a good pull, to stretch it sufficiently for insertion into the opposite slot. The lubricated second loop can then be easily pushed into the other side of the frame. Strong fingers are required to push the loop in far enough to allow insertion of the second dowel, but for the most part, that task was achieved without difficulty. On only one or two occasions was a screwdriver needed to lever the loop far enough through the frame to get the second dowel in. No string was necessary to help pull the loops through the frame. Alternating between longitudinal and transverse straps helped keep an even tension on the frame and prevent distortion.

*Thank you very much for the replacement straps for the Evergreen armchair and the Jubilee sofa. I have re-webbed the chair and taking a breather after fitting the side to side straps and the z-shaped straps on the sofa! Your instructions are amazing and made the whole task very simple; in particular to stretch the straps by a centimetre or so at a time. I found that slotting the nylon cord loop into the tread of a trail shoe helped to provide the necessary force when stretching. Much harder with the z straps because the back of the sofa got in the way and the frame is lower at the back.

*Thanks for the straps which arrived with no issues and have now been fitted. My in-laws, both in their 80’s, are delighted to be able to use the armchairs in their sun-lounge again without fears of disappearing through the seats.
To be able to order pre cut straps with the Pirelli clips already attached and the straps at the correct tension for the spacing of the slots was a real benefit as I had anticipated having to order the elasticated webbing and clips separately and learn how to fit the clips. Even then, it would have been likely that the tension on each individual strap would have varied, since I would have been tackling the job as a complete amateur.
Brownie points have been earned from my in-laws and I must give you the credit for that!

* Thanks for the replacement slot-in webbing for my ancient studio couch, last re-furbished in about 1990 and, as my Mum confirmed, bought in 1956 for my parents’ first flat! Definitely a 2 person job to stretch the straps into place, now she is firm again instead of sagging!
Lovely to find a local specialist, now available by internet, to make up the webbing in a skilled way rather than spending hours doing it myself badly… I probably won’t need this service again for another 28 years but will recommend you if I see the chance!

Were fitted “after a fight” yesterday evening. Got easier with familiarity!
I found lubricating with Cussons liquid hand wash very good: possibly because of fat content?
The spring steel tool which came from Ercol some years back with a strap kit is a bit of a beast. Ercol’s last kit was not a patch on the assembly quality of yours, their fixing pops were all over the place, many possibly too near the edge of the strap.
I may have to start saving for a 3-seater ‘Old Colonial’ settee kit.
